Poland, Sweden reiterate support for Ukraine
By UKRINFORM
Warsaw and Stockholm are at the forefront of helping Ukraine and will continue to do so in the future.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said this during a joint press conference in Warsaw on Monday, February 19, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"Poland and Sweden are leaders in terms of assistance to Ukraine. We talked for a long time about the need to strengthen defense and military cooperation both in Europe between all member states and on a bilateral basis between Poland and Sweden," Tusk said.
He noted that Warsaw and Stockholm have similar views on the issue of Russian aggression in Ukraine, the need for assistance to Kyiv, as well as the preservation of transatlantic ties.
"Europe, the United States and the entire North Atlantic Alliance must show solidarity, be responsible and work together. There is no room for any doubts or disloyalty," Tusk said.
He added that Poland supported Sweden joining NATO as soon as possible and expressed hope that this would happen in the near future.
Kristersson, in turn, said that Europe should consider introducing a new package of sanctions against Russia over the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. According to him, this will be the best way to honor the Russian opposition figure and a sign of support for Ukraine.
"We must mobilize so that Ukraine can resist Russia's brutal aggression. What we do today will affect the outcome of the war and our common security," Kristersson said.
He added that he and Tusk had also discussed strengthening the potential of arms production in Europe, including Poland and Sweden.
"We are ready to strengthen our bilateral cooperation in the field of defense and security, also as a member of NATO. Like the other Baltic countries, we would like to strengthen security in the entire Baltic Sea region," Kristersson said.

Sweden to Provide Ukraine With Its Largest Military Aid Package
by Kyiv Post
Sweden's 15th aid package to Ukraine will total SEK 7.1 billion ($683 million) and include amphibious assault boats, anti-aircraft systems, ammunition and more.
Sweden will provide Ukraine with its largest package of military assistance, the 15th package that Stockholm has promised which “in the end, it is about humanity and decency,” according to Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson.
“It's also about protecting values and interests that are important to Sweden and Sweden's interests,” he added.
The package is understood to include:
10 Stridsbåt 90-class amphibious assault boats;
20 other amphibious assault boats;
underwater weapons such as mines and torpedoes;
a number of anti-aircraft systems such as Robot 70;
Anti-tank robots of the TOW model;
Grenade launchers with ammunition;
Artillery ammunition;
Hand grenades;
Grenade launchers "Karl Gustav";
Medical equipment;
Ambulances; Ambulances.
The aid package also includes about SEK 1 billion ($96 million) for the joint purchase of CV 90 armored vehicles for Ukraine by Sweden and Denmark.
SEK 400 million ($38 million) will be allocated to various educational initiatives for Ukrainians.
Jonson said that this package was intended to address some of Ukraine's most pressing needs.
“Russia's war on Ukraine is also a war against the rules-based order. Ukraine is not only defending its own freedom but that of all of Europe. Sweden will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes. Russia cannot be allowed to win this war,” he said.
Taking into account previous packages, Sweden has provided Ukraine with a total of just over SEK 30 billion ($2.9 billion).

Sweden makes fresh Ukraine military aid pledge as NATO membership nears
BY JOSHUA POSANER, POLITICO
Budapest is the last NATO capital needed to approve Sweden’s membership bid.
The Swedish government today announced a $683 million package of military aid to Ukraine as Kyiv's war-ravaged army battles Russia's attacks along the front line.
The announcement of extra aid comes as Hungary moves to end its months-long blockade on Sweden joining NATO.
The parliament could schedule a vote to approve Sweden's NATO membership as soon as next Monday, a senior lawmaker from the ruling Fidesz party, Máté Kocsis, wrote in a letter to the speaker of the parliament, according to a post on his Facebook page.
Hungary is the only NATO country that has not signed off on Sweden's bid.
The donations announced today take total Swedish commitments to an equivalent $2.9 billion, Defense Minister Pål Jonson said, with extra cash assigned to a joint program with the Danish government covering CV-90 combat vehicles.
Jonson said that the deliveries would also include artillery ammunition and Carl Gustaf grenade launchers — critical supplies given the Ukrainian military has repeatedly warned that it is running out of large-caliber rounds.
"This support package meets some of Ukraine's most pressing needs and is in line with the military capability coalitions that are taking shape within the Ukraine Defence Contact Group," said Jonson.
Sweden, along with its Nordic neighbors Denmark, Norway and Finland, are among the leaders when it comes to pledging military support to Ukraine according to figures from the Kiel Institute.
